2D Award

Meaghan Shelton
Recast
Oil, graphite, acrylic and polyurethane on Belgian linen

Judge’s comments:

“The simplicity of the composition of this work belies the technical skill of the artist. The satisfying grid layout holds beautifully executed optical illusions. The restrained palette is appealing as it gives each stone or seed the visual space to show off its unique detail.”

Patriciasheppard

2D Highly Commended

Patricia Sheppard
Picnic on the Paroo
Acrylic

Judge’s comments:

“This famous vista at Paroo is given an interesting surrealist twist with the flash of pink. The artist’s choice to obscure the scenic view of the lake with the gnarled bare trees holds the viewer’s gaze and the application of paint provides texture and detail.”

Yannivanzijl

3D Award

Yanni Van Zijl
Life’s a Journey
Ceramics

Judge’s comments:

“This piece is a clever combination of fluidity and movement while being constructed with a hard and inert material, has resulted in a beautiful sculpture that keeps the eye moving. The consistency of colour, size and shape is a remarkable achievement.”

Susanlynch

Ceramic Award

Susan Lynch
A Sketch of the Last Convict
Wildclay (unfired)

Judge’s comments:

“This ephemeral work evokes the artists memories of her grandfather and his journey as a migrant. Although small, this humble piece draws the viewer in with its detail and unmistakeable sentiment reflecting on the mixed emotions of migration and family history.”

Kurtolsen

Local’s Award

Kurt Olsen
Jan’s Chair Under the Mountain
Acrylic

Judge’s comments:

“The artist’s clever restraint in his colour palette rewards viewers in this abstracted landscape. Bold brush strokes and smooth lines provide textural clues for what the view from Jan’s chair might be and results in a successful and interesting landscape.”
