Kerbside Bin Collection
General waste bins are collected weekly, while recycling bins are collected fortnightly. Click the button below to check your collection day.
During school holidays, general waste bins in Rainbow Beach are collected every Monday and Friday, with recycling collected on Mondays.
Bins are collected as usual on Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Good Friday, and Easter Monday. However, Christmas Day collections will occur earlier, so please place your bins out on Christmas Eve to ensure they’re collected.
What is the service?
The household waste and recycling service includes:
- A 140L / 240L wheelie bin for general household waste (collected once per week)
- A 240L wheelie bin for household recyclables (collected once a fortnight)
If you’re a property owner and wish to arrange a bin service for your property, please contact us during business hours on 1300 307 800.
Your Responsibilities
To ensure a smooth collection, please follow these guidelines:
- Place your bins on the kerbside by 6am on collection day, with the handle facing your house
- Ensure bins do not block pedestrian pathways or vehicle access
- Keep general waste and recyclables separate to avoid contamination
- Bag loose rubbish, such as dust, kitchen scraps, and grass clippings (but don’t bag recyclables)
- Ensure the bin is not overloaded (maximum weight is 70kg)
- The lid must be able to close fully—do not overfill the bin
Bin Placement on the Kerbside:
Once your bins have been emptied, please bring them back in as soon as possible to avoid creating a safety hazard.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
If the driver places a sticker on your bin, it usually means there was an issue. Please contact Council for further clarification.
-
Waste collection trucks are equipped with cameras so drivers can scan the bins for hazardous items before they are emptied. If something unusual is detected, the driver will inspect the contents and, if hazardous waste or contamination is found, a sticker will be placed on your bin. If no issues are found, the bin will be emptied as usual.
Please note, the driver will not remove documents or personal information from your bins during these checks.

Recycling not only benefits the environment but can also help reduce your waste removal costs.

As a business, you'll need to choose the right size and type of waste bins and decide how frequently they need to be emptied. It's recommended to have a screened bin enclosure that waste collection trucks can easily access. Ensure that bin lids are kept on to prevent water, flies, vermin, and unpleasant odours, and make sure there's a space for washing the bins.
You’ll need sufficient waste containers to accommodate the waste generated at your premises. Alternatively, you may choose to use a private waste collection service if preferred.
-
Your bin may have been missed for reasons such as:
- A bin service is not connected to the property. If you are unsure whether bin services are connected to your property, check your latest rates notice to see if a waste service is listed or contact council
- Bins were put out for servicing after 6am
- The bin is not a Cleanaway bin or has been purchased privately (it may be from a different local government area)
- There may have been long items protruding from the bin (lids should be able to close)
- The bin was too heavy to lift (truck lifting devices have an in-built safety cut-off at 70kg)
- The bin was emptied but waste was stuck in the bottom of the bin
- The bin is in an unsafe location or facing the wrong way
- The recycling bin was contaminated with general waste, liquid waste, green waste, or hazardous waste
- The waste bin contained liquid waste or hazardous waste.
Once the issues have been rectified your bin will be emptied the following scheduled bin day.
Bins can be emptied at any time between 6am and 6pm on your day of service.
All of our Cleanaway trucks are fitted with GPS and cameras to ensure no bin is missed, however, if your bin was accidentally missed, please lodge an online customer request after 6pm on your day of service, or contact us on 1300 307 800 during business hours the following day and we will arrange for your bin to be emptied.
If your bin was missed due to operational reasons, such as a truck breakdown, flooding etc. leave your bin out, and we will empty it as soon as we can.
