RSL Memorial Park Project

The Gympie RSL is delivering improvements at Memorial Park and Memorial Lane at Gympie. This will enhance two of the region’s most prominent war memories and heritage places to build the region’s capacity to recognise and reflect on our servicemen and women.

The project includes several improvements to Memorial Lane and parts of Memorial Park and will be staged as follows:

Stage 1
Memorial Flame

  • Relocation and upgrade of the Memorial Flame

  • Upgraded lighting and tree planting
December 2024 – March 2025 (excluding Christmas holiday period)
Stage 2
Realigned Path

  • Realignment and resurfacing of footpath across the park from Reef St to River Rd

February – March 2025
Stage 3
Memorial Lane

Upgrade to the Reef Street entry of Memorial Lane:

  • Removing the existing Memorial Flame

  • Planting of trees and gardens

  • Partial resurfacing of the ground treatment between Reef St and the Memorial Lane toilets
February – June 2025

Reef Street upgrades to be undertaken by Gympie Regional Council following further detailed design and subject to funding. Memorial pillars will be installed as part of these future works.

The landscape plans can be viewed here.

As part of the plans, the RSL has commissioned artist Remo Vallance to design and construct the Memorial Flame and Memorial Pillars. See the designs here.

These upgrades will rejuvenate and improve the Park’s memorial elements and enhance the region’s ability to host large-scale commemorative events such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day.
