The Gympie Region Local Housing Action Plan was the first plan to be developed between the Queensland Government and a Local Council under the former Queensland Housing Strategy 2017-2027.
In February 2024, the Queensland Government launched Homes for Queenslanders, which builds on the work already progressed under the superseded Strategy.
Our Local Housing Action Plan aims to improve the availability, diversity and quality of housing in our region to encourage community liveability, resilience and social and economic prosperity. The Plan was endorsed by Council at its Ordinary Meeting on 21 September 2022.
A working group of Gympie Regional Council and State Government representatives are responsible for progressing actions, reviewing findings and reporting quarterly.
The Gympie Region Local Housing Action Plan - Implementation Report provides an overview of actions progressed and completed in 2023-2024. This report is updated each quarter.
Local Housing Action Plan - Implementation Report
Council and State government representatives meet at least quarterly with the community led Gympie Region Housing and Homelessness Forum to review actions, gain insight into emerging community issues and develop regional responses. The Forum is comprised of representatives of front-line service providers and community groups including Community Action Inc., St Vincent de Paul - Gympie, Gympie Regional Homeless Assistance Inc., IFYS and Gympie Community Place.
A Working Together Agreement has been developed between the Forum, Gympie Regional Council and the Department of Housing. The Agreement provides guidance on how the parties will work together to implement the Local Housing Action Plan and captures our shared purpose to improve housing for the Gympie region and in turn improve the overall health and wellbeing of our community.
