Proposed Amendments to the Gympie Regional Council Planning Scheme 2013
Proposed Amendments to the Gympie Regional Council Planning Scheme 2013
Notice is given under the Planning Act 2016 that Gympie Regional Council is proposing minor and major amendments to the Gympie Regional Council Planning Scheme 2013 (the Planning Scheme).
Gympie Regional Council had previously undertaken public consultation on Amendment Package 2 to incorporate a suite of amendments to the Planning Scheme, Local Government Infrastructure Plan and Planning Scheme Policy 1: Development standards. Following submissions received during public consultation, Council resolved at its Ordinary meeting on 12 February 2020 to change a small number of the proposed amendments in Amendment Package 2.
In accordance with Part 4, item 20.1 and 20.2 of the Minister’s Guidelines and Rules, Gympie Regional Council is undertaking another round of public consultation on only those aspects of the proposed amendments that have significantly changed.
The purpose of further public consultation is to allow community consideration of proposed amendments to address issues raised in submissions during the public consultation period for Amendment Package 2. These changes will aid in delivering development outcomes that are consistent with community expectations.
The proposed amendments to the Planning Scheme subject to this public consultation include, but are not limited to:
- Victory Heights Local Development Area: Zoning is proposed to remain as currently adopted in the current Planning Scheme, being a combination of Low Impact Industry zone and Medium Impact Industry zone, and it is proposed to remove the Local Development Area Boundary;
- Amendments to Temporary Uses – Section 1.7 Irregular and Infrequent Uses specifically relating to Motor Sports Facilities (e.g. motor sport events) and Theatre Events (e.g. music events). It is proposed to remove the proposed amendments relating to parameters for encouraging Motor Sports Facilities and Theatre Events on an ad hoc, irregular basis;
- Sporting field fence signs – Council is proposing to lower the level of assessment to ‘accepted development’ (not requiring an application to Council) if the sporting field fence sign is contained within an internally facing fence and does not protrude beyond the fence.
Public consultation on the proposed amendments commences Monday 20 April 2020 and closes Monday 18 May 2020. During the consultation period, a copy of the proposed amendments can be viewed and/or purchased at Council’s Planning and Development building, 29 Channon Street, Gympie during normal office hours. Copies of the proposed amendments will also be available on Council’s website during this period at www.gympie.qld.gov.au/haveyoursay.
Any person may make a submission about any aspect of the proposed amendments. Submissions are to be:

- state the name and address of each person making the submission; and
- state the grounds of the submission and the facts and circumstances relied on to support the grounds of the submission; and
