Media Statement - COVID-19

Back

Gympie Regional Council is following the advice and direction of Queensland Health on all COVID-19-related matters.

The COVID-19 vaccine status public health and social measures announced by the Queensland Government last month and set to come into effect from 17 December will not apply to council-owned libraries. This means that both vaccinated and unvaccinated staff and visitors will be permitted to enter any of the Gympie region’s libraries.

Please note, however, that in accordance with the state government requirements:

• staff, contractors and volunteers working in our art gallery will be impacted by the vaccination mandate and will be required to be double vaccinated to enter the facility. This applies to visitors to the gallery as well.

• staff, contractors and volunteers working in our venues (e.g. Pavilion and Civic Centre) will in most cases be impacted by the vaccination mandate and required to be double vaccinated to enter the facility. Council is working through the details of the state government directives in this regard and will provide instructions to hirers and visitors when enquiring about, and entering, the venues.

Council’s customer service counters remain open to all members of the community regardless of their vaccination status.

Council continues to monitor the situation and is in regular contact with Queensland Government representatives to ensure any advice and directions are applied to council’s facilities in accordance with Queensland Health’s requirements.

Vaccination processes and requirements are a state government matter and the community is encouraged to contact the Queensland Government with any questions or concerns.
