Information sessions empower community organisations to secure funding

Back

To foster closer ties with local community groups and support impactful projects across the region, Gympie Regional Council’s Community Development Team is hitting the road to meet face-to-face with local community groups in August.

This initiative, known as Community Conversations, coincides with the opening of Council’s annual Community Grants Program on 5 August.

More than $550,000 is on offer this financial year through Council’s Community Grants Program. Grants of various sizes are available across eleven categories.

The team will host informal information sessions in five regional centres this month, in addition to face to face and online grants information sessions in Gympie.

Gympie Regional Council Manager of Community and Commercial Services Andree Stark said the sessions were designed to provide vital information about the grants program, offer guidance on how to apply and were pivotal for organisations seeking funding.

“By attending these sessions, organisations gain insights into what types of projects and expenses qualify for community grants and how to address assessment criteria. This empowers groups to craft stronger applications, thereby increasing their chances of success.

“Ultimately, our goal is to see a multitude of impactful projects and events that enrich our region.”

A representative from the Department of Tourism and Sport will also be in attendance to engage directly with attendees from local sporting clubs.

Council encourages all interested community, recreation, and sporting groups to take advantage of these sessions.

Last year, 133 grants were awarded across a wide range of categories including community facilities, creative projects, events, environment projects and halls insurance.

Grant applications are submitted online though the SmartyGrants platform. For information about the sessions and grants program, visit Council’s website www.gympie.qld.gov.au
