Council Is A Finalist In Prestigious Outdoors Queensland Awards 2020

Gympie Regional Council’s River to Rail Trail has been announced as a finalist in the Government Achievement Award category of the Outdoors Queensland Awards 2020.

This is the second year in a row that one of Gympie’s outdoor trails has be recognised for this award; last year, Gympie’s Mary Valley Rail Trail was the winner.

The award is one of a variety of awards established by the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation (QORF) to recognise contributions to the outdoors sector.

One of Council’s open space portfolio holders, Councillor Shane Waldock, said that it was great to see the trail being recognised outside of the region.

“We know that our community loves our River to Rail Trail and since the complete trail opened back in November 2019, it has been a big drawcard for both locals and visitors.”

The River to Rail Trail is approximately nine kilometres long from Nelson Reserve, through Albert Park and along the picturesque Mary River.

The trail passes through the Victoria Bridge Conservation Area on Deep Creek and around to the Railway Station on Tozer Street and back into the Gympie Town Centre, forming a connected recreation loop. It is suitable for both walking and cycling.

Award winners will be announced on Friday, 30 October 2020 in a virtual presentation.

The River to Rail Trail was a joint initiative of Gympie Regional Council and the Queensland Government under rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the Works for Queensland funding program.
