Local Historical and Touring Quilts on Show
On view at the Gympie Regional Gallery from Thursday 21 April, ‘SOTA22 - State of the Art 2022’ is a highly regarded annual collection of textile works that is juried and judged by national specialists.
The exhibition is a collection of Queensland and interstate submissions, not defined by a single topic. Therefore, each work reflects the artist’s personality and popular subjects including nature, social and environmental issues.
A wide range of techniques is present in the exhibition, involving the use of paint, print, eco dyeing, collage, hand and machine stitching and more.
The official opening is Saturday 23 April from 1pm to 2.30pm, and will be officiated by Mayor Glen Hartwig. Registration is essential.
“I encourage the community to come along and view the artwork on display. What makes this exhibition special is the addition of two quilts from our region. One of the quilts is from Gympie and was crafted in 1893 while the other is more recent from Goomeri.” Mayor Hartwig said.
The Gympie 1893 quilt is generously on loan from the Rotary Club of Gympie, which hosts the Annual Quilt and Craft Spectacular in Gympie.
‘SOTA22 - State of the Art 2022’ is on view until Saturday, 14 May 2022.
Entry to the Gympie Regional Gallery at 39 Nash Street is free, with opening hours from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
