Community groups could benefit from extra funding and Support

Gympie Regional Council is hosting two free community information sessions to help the region’s community groups, not-for-profit organisations and sporting clubs on their road to recovery following the region’s most recent flood events.

The sessions will focus on providing up-to-date information about the range of funding, grants and support programs that are available to the community. Representatives from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, the Department of Innovation, Sport and Recreation, the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA), as well as Council’s Community Development Team will be presenting.

Mayor Glen Hartwig said that the community, not-for profit and sporting sectors within the community have been heavily impacted by the recent events. “Many of our sporting clubs are located in areas more prone to flooding and have been impacted by flood not just once, but three times this year alone,” he said. “And our community and not-for-profit groups have been very much involved with the flood recovery efforts, not only cleaning up themselves, but also offering practical and emotional support to others dealing with their own devastation.”

Mayor Hartwig is encouraging as many groups as possible to attend one of the information sessions. “After so many blows this year, we know how much of a toll everything has taken on these groups and their many volunteers,” he said. “I really want to see our community groups, not-for-profit organisations and sporting clubs thriving again and I know they could all benefit from some extra support.”

The free information sessions will be held at the Australian Institute of Country Music, 26 Channon St, Gympie Qld on Wednesday, 1 June 2022. You can attend the 1:30pm-3:30pm or the 5:30pm-7:30pm session time. Registration is essential. To find out more, visit the What’s On section of Gympie Regional Council’s website.
