Nominations are now open for the six Australia Day Award categories and Gympie Regional Council encourages members of the community to nominate those deserving:
• Citizen of the Year Award
• Young Citizen of the Year Award
• Resilience Award
• Creative Award
• Sports Award
• Community Group, Event or Organisation of the Year Award.
Mayor Glen Hartwig invites community members to nominate those deserving acknowledgement for their contributions and achievements.
“The Australia Day Awards are a really great way to say thank you to those members of the community who have stepped up to support and assist others, have made outstanding contributions of service, or have achieved to a high standard,” Mayor Hartwig said.
“This has been a difficult year for many in the region, which has highlighted the outstanding contributions of service and willingness of community members to support one another.
“The Resilience Award is a new Australia Day Award being introduced in 2023 to specifically acknowledge community members of the Gympie region who demonstrated great resilience in facing personal or community challenge during the year.
“This award has been created in memory of Roxanne MacGregor who showed tremendous resilience in her approach to life.
“Roxanne gave so much more to the world than she ever took. She was a wonderful woman who really did champion the cause for those with disability in the Gympie region.”
