Wheels in motion for a number of council flood recovery projects

Back

Crews have mobilised this week at Curra Estate Road, the first road of 24 on Gympie Regional Council’s first Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Construction Package.

In March 2023, Gympie Regional Council endorsed the contract award for Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements Construction Package 01. This marked the first contract awarded in the restoration phase of council’s flood recovery works.

The following roads are included in the almost $10million construction package funded by the jointly-funded commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

The following roads are included in Construction Package 01: Curra Estate Road, Cedar Pocket Road, East Deep Creek Road, Eel Creek Road, Gap Road, Lawson Road, McIntosh Creek Road, Moy Pocket Road, Noosa Road, North Deep Creek Road, Rocks Road, Sandy Creek Road, Traveston Road, Abel Road, Booubyjan Road, Cinnabar Road, Glen Echo Road, Goomeri West Road, Harvey Road, Kinbombi Road, Manumbar Road, Manyung Road, Mudlo Road, and Power Road (Widgee).

Construction package 01 is expected to be completed by March 2024, with more packages in the works.

Another flood recovery win under Councils belt as the much-anticipated Maudsley Street Flood Betterment Project is nearing completion.

“It’s exciting to see Maudsley Street nearing completion, crews are hoping to open the road this week.’ Gympie Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Divisional Councillor, Hilary Smerdon.

“Crews have worked hard to complete the flood repairs to Maudsley Street after receiving the green light from the state in March of this year. We acknowledge the timeline it’s taken to fix the road, but we didn’t want a situation where we do a patch job and have to constantly go back to refix. It’s about betterment works and getting it done right. I’d like to thank the community for their patience while council navigated the process involved in fixing this road.’ He said.
