The Gympie Region has officially welcomed 29 new Australian citizens as part of a special Citizenship Ceremony held at The Pavilion Conference and Reception Centre this week.

The region’s newest citizens have hailed from several countries including New Zealand, India, Philippines, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Spain, Thailand, England, Netherlands, and Switzerland.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said it was fantastic to see people from all around the world choosing Gympie to call home.

“It is an absolute privilege to welcome new citizens to our wonderful region and share in this special moment for the new citizens and their families,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“One of the things that sets our region apart is our diverse, connected community which supports one another and makes Gympie an incredible place to live, work, and raise a family.

“These ceremonies give us the chance to demonstrate our warm and welcoming community and celebrates what it means to be an Australian.”

Anne Walford and husband Rob moved to Australia from New Zealand in 1985 and relocated to the Gympie Region in 2017. Anne said the pair was excited to be celebrating with fellow new citizens.

“Gympie has a lovely community of people, and the region offers great dining, beautiful beaches, and is so close to the city.” Mrs Walford said.

This is the second citizenship ceremony to take place this year.
