Celebrate Spring with a Fun Community Recovery Picnic
Gympie Regional Council is delighted to announce a community event to celebrate resilience and flood recovery on 14 September, from 11am to 2:30pm at Memorial Park.
Everyone is invited to bask in the warmer weather and connect with friends and family, enjoying tasty food and vibrant music at the Spring Picnic Community Recovery Celebration.
This free event is fully funded by the Queensland and Australian governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
Two years on from the flood events in 2022, it is important to take stock of community recovery milestones across roads and community infrastructure, as well as continuing to build community wellbeing and resilience through coming together at community events.
Approximately 75 percent of road recovery projects have been completed along with the remediation of key community assets such as One Mile Ovals, the AFL Grounds and the Memorial Park Bandstand.
A broad range of projects are scheduled to be completed in 2024/2025 including further roads works, key community facilities such as Albert Park Grandstand, Kandanga Pool and the River to Rail Trail.
Enjoy live entertainment in the restored Bandstand with music from the Maryborough Excelsior City Band, Cooloola Community Orchestra, Highly Swung Jazz Duo and the RSL Choir.
Feast on delicious food from the Gympie QCWA and a free sausage sizzle from the Salvation Army at the Spring Picnic.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor, Glen Hartwig said he was pleased that Council can host this event as part of community recovery.
“The Spring Picnic celebrates the resilience of our community and the significant flood recovery progress achieved so far,” Cr Hartwig said.
“This is a chance for our community to come together, enjoy music and friendship in Memorial Park and celebrate how far we have come since the floods.”
