Swimming Returns: Tin Can Bay Pool Set to Open Its Doors

Gympie Regional Council is pleased to announce the reopening of the Tin Can Bay Public Pool on Saturday, 2 November 2024, at 10:30 am.

The pool was initially expected to reopen later in the year due to ongoing upgrades. However, due to an unforeseen delay in the recoating of the pool shell, Council has made the decision to reopen the pool early to allow residents to cool off during the hot summer months.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor, Glen Hartwig says that while the recoating will enhance the Tin Can Bay Pool’s surface by providing a smoother finish and improved durability, patrons can still enjoy the facility without compromising safety.

“It is essential to maintain a safe environment for all users, and Council is committed to ensuring that safety remains a top priority as we welcome the community back to the pool,” Cr Hartwig said.

"As part of Council’s 2024/2025 financial year budget, $931,375 has been allocated for pool renewals and upgrades across the region.

“Since the budget was adopted on 23 July, Council has made significant progress on essential upgrades at the Tin Can Bay pool. The works are aimed at improving safety and enhancing the overall experience for all users. These upgrades include electrical repairs, roof repairs, repainting of the kiosk, rust treatment of metal structures, and the installation of safety signs and lighting.

“Future works will focus on repairing the shade structure roof, upgrading the solar heating system and switchboard, and installing a new shade structure over the hoist for people with disabilities.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of Tin Can Bay for their ongoing patience as we continue to upgrade this important community facility. The pool serves as a vital gathering place where people can connect, exercise, and cool off on hot summer days.”

The recoating of the pool shell is expected to commence at the conclusion of the 2025 swimming season. Updates on the upgrades to the Tin Can Bay Pool will be announced on Council’s Facebook page.

Tin Can Bay Pool Opening Times:

- Monday - Friday: 6:00 am – 10:00 am & 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
- Saturday - Sunday: 10:30 am – 5:30 pm
- Christmas School Holiday Hours: 6:00 am – 11:00 am & 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
- Public Holidays: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Closed on Christmas Day)
