Tree Removal Notice - Memorial Park
Gympie Regional Council advises of the scheduled removal of two large trees in Memorial Park due to their deteriorating condition.
Consultants were engaged to assess the trees, and removal was recommended due to the trees' declining health. Given their location and proximity to businesses, the park, roadways, and pedestrian pathways, removing the trees is necessary to ensure public safety.
Trees scheduled for removal:
-
Hoop Pine located adjacent to Reef Street: Is believed to have been struck by lightning casing a large wound running up the trunk, this tree has rapid dieback and is displaying signs of internal decay.
-
Jacaranda located adjacent to Young Street: Is displaying signs of internal decay with significant dieback with approximately 5% foliage remaining on the tree.
The timber from these trees is likely to be in a very poor condition and not fit for donation to local woodworking clubs. However, if there is any timber worth salvaging, it will be donated.
Scheduled Removal Date: The removal will occur over two days Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28th November 2024.
Replacement: The tree will be replaced with young trees of the same species.
Community Safety
To ensure the safety of the community during the removal process an exclusion zone within Memorial Park and the footpath and parking spaces adjacent to the works will be closed.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this necessary work to maintain the safety and beauty of our community spaces.
