Economic Development Strategy to build a prosperous future for Gympie
Gympie Regional Council is building a vibrant, thriving future for the region, with the endorsement of a new economic development strategy to guide investment and business growth across Gympie Region.
This five-year strategic document Growing the Gympie Region: Economic Development Strategy 2025-2029 paves the way for a strong, diverse economy across the region by recognising 44 priority actions across four key pillars:
- Attract investment and innovation in a diversity of established industries
- Encourage the Gympie region’s diversity of businesses to prosper
- Promote a skilled and adaptable workforce to thrive in the Gympie Region
- Nurture the Gympie region’s appeal as a place to live, learn, and prosper
Mayor Glen Hartwig said the endorsement of the strategy sends a clear message that Gympie is open for business and was excited to embrace new opportunities.
“Our region is on the cusp of unprecedented economic growth, and Council is eager to build our reputation as a prime spot to do business and capitalise on economic opportunities for our community,” Cr Hartwig said.
“We have a strong, established business sector with key industries that drive economic activity such as forestry, horticulture, and livestock, an evolving manufacturing sector, health and community services, construction, transport, and logistics, as well as a flourishing retail trade. This strategy also recognises opportunities in emerging industries such as energy, education and training, the arts and creative industries, and tourism.
“With prime access to national and internal markets thanks to the $1 billion Bruce Highway extension, and a massive $16 billion of pipeline of renewable energy projects for the region, now is the time to explore what’s possible.
“This untapped potential creates a unique position to enhance the region, and this strategy is about recognising our strengths and harnessing opportunities to grow and prosper.”
