New Exhibition Showcases A Local Artist's Life Work

‘Reflections’ is a snapshot of a life commitment to art by one of Gympie’s well-known artists, Kerrie Atkins. It spans over 40 years of creativity, highlighting some of her major exhibitions, particularly those held at the Gympie Regional Gallery, such as ‘Colours of Sandy Creek’, ‘Inskip and Beyond’, ‘A Step Further’ and ‘Norfolk Island’.

The collective works that compose ‘reflections’ range from Kerrie’s earlier works to now. The exhibition highlights the artist’s passion for her surroundings, with many works showcasing nature, her family, animals and the regions cultural history. 

Kerrie’s work is flexible and often experiments in abstract qualities such as form and the dynamics of colour and line. Not afraid of utilising a range of media, Kerrie often uses watercolour, gouache, pastels, pen and ink, acrylic and oil paints.

Kerrie is a predominate figure in the local arts and culture scene with a career that spans many facets of creativity. From community artist, book illustrator, teacher, mentor, curator, judge, festival artist and public mural artist, Kerrie’s artistic roots run deep in Gympie’s creative community. 

There are a range of programs to compliment Kerrie’s exhibition including a Q&A talk from 10.30am on the 14 April 2021 plus Artist-In-Residence workshop, Wednesdays from 21 April 2021. Lastly, enjoy a lovely drawing day with Kerrie at Cedar Grove picnic area on Sunday, 23 May 2021 from 10.30am – 2.30pm. Registrations are essential for these free programs.

This inspiring exhibition is available from Thursday 8 April until Saturday 29 May 2021.

Entry to the Gympie Regional Gallery at 39 Nash Street is free, with opening hours from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday.
