Free weed management workshops for local farmers
Gympie Regional Council is offering free weed management workshops to help local primary producers tackle restricted invasive weeds, with a focus on Giant Rat’s Tail Grass and Parthenium.
These weeds can reduce pasture productivity by out-competing desirable pasture grasses, which impacts livestock production businesses. They compete with crops for nutrients and space and cause significant degradation to natural areas.
Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig highlighted the importance of proactive weed management for primary producers.
“As a farmer myself, I understand the challenges of managing invasive weeds. These sessions cover various topics to help local primary producers, including improved pasture as a multi-year weed control strategy, pasture agronomy for productive and competitive pastures, and using livestock for effective, long-term weed management.”
"Each of us plays a vital role in protecting our land for future generations. I encourage you to attend one of the workshops, gain valuable insights, and be part of the solution in the fight against these invasive weeds."
