RSL Memorial Park Project - Memorial Lane temporary closure

Back

Council wishes to advise of the temporary closure of Memorial Lane due to works commencing as part of the first stage of the RSL Memorial Park project.

Memorial Lane will be temporarily closed to the public from Tuesday 18 March 2025 until further notice as crews work to upgrade the laneway. These upgrade works will see the installation of a new Memorial Flame within Memorial Park.

Phase 1 of this project also includes the upgrading of lighting in Memorial Park. Due to these upgrade works taking place, Energex requires the existing lights in the park to be switched off for approximately a week.

Additionally, the Peace Pole located in Memorial Park will be temporarily removed during the works, to be reinstalled upon project completion.

These works are being constructed in accordance with Gympie Regional Council Operational Works Approval and State Heritage Approval. There will be some minor adjustments to pedestrian and traffic flow around the Memorial Park and Memorial Lane.

Appropriate and approved traffic management signs and fencing will be erected around each element of the project for the duration of the respective works for public safety and to minimise any disruption to adjoining businesses.

It is anticipated a full closure will be in place for a three to four weeks, with partial access to be reopened as soon as possible.
