CBD Tree works and temporary road closures - Mary Street and Smithfield Street, Gympie
Gympie Regional Council will be conducting standard annual tree maintenance of all trees throughout Mary and Smithfield Street. To reduce disturbance, the works will be carried out from 8am over two days.
- Sunday 11 May: Monkland Street to Smithfield Street
- Sunday 18 May: Smithfield Street to Fiveways Roundabout
Works
Council will be undertaking standard pruning maintenance on all trees along Mary Street and Smithfield Street to address tree structure, size and to reduce overhang on nearby buildings.
Additionally, three trees will be removed:
- Leopard Tree near Memorial Lane, severely damaged during a building fire
- Weeping Lilly Pilly Tree near Wayne’s World Discount Variety Store, has structural issues that pose a concern for public safety
- Weeping Lilly Pilly Tree near Smithfield Street Junction, suppressed by the larger Fig Tree and is not suitable for this location
In accordance with the Five-Year Maintenance Program for Mary Street, the three trees identified for removal will be replaced with suitable species in the coming months that will continue to uphold the aesthetics of the street.
No other trees are identified for removal as part of these works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout Mary and Smithfield Street during the course of these works.
