Building is set to commence at the Cooloola BMX complex with construction of a new flood resilient amenities block.

At its March Ordinary Meeting, Gympie Regional Council awarded the project tender to Kimini Constructions to deliver the project, which is being funded through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) following the February 2022 floods.

The flood resilient facility will be located south of the BMX track and include toilets, showers and change room facilities.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said he was pleased to announce that works at the BMX facility will progress following the repair of drainage to the track last year.

“Cooloola BMX is a thriving club that actively encourages recreation, healthy living and sport in the region,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“With the club hosting local and regional competition, the flood-resilient facilities will ensure that this club can continue to grow and host future events.”

“This has been a long-awaited project for our community, and we will continue to advocate for improved infrastructure and outcomes for the region to enhance our liveability.”

Construction is expected to commence in June 2025, with completion estimated for late September 2025, weather permitting.

The Community and Recreational Asset Recovery and Resilience Program is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
