Red Bench to be unveiled today

The Red Rose Foundation has launched the Red Bench Project to build a permanent reminder that domestic violence occurs within all of our communities. 

The presence of a red bench in a public location aims to raise public awareness and provide an opportunity for this important issue to remain visible. 

The Red Rose Foundation aims to have at least one red bench in every local government area in Queensland. There are now over 40 red benches from local government, state government and community groups. 

The Queensland Police Service, in conjunction with the Red Rose Foundation and supported by Gympie Regional Council, will unveil the Gympie region’s red bench on Thursday, 18 February 2021 at the Gold City Centre Stage, 89 Mary Street, Gympie between 2.00pm and 2.30pm.  

Gympie State High School has also committed to being part of the Red Bench Project launched by ‘The Red Rose Foundation’. Catie Elder, Youth Support Coordinator, and students from Gympie State High School collaborated with Odette Reid and Amber Kerrigan, Regional Youth Support Coordinator, to construct a red bench in awareness of domestic violence. The red bench will be permanently placed in the school grounds as a lasting reminder of the impact of domestic violence on our community.
