Gympie Medical Transport moved into what many residents would know as the ‘old Telstra shop’ at 39 Monkland Street, Gympie on Monday, 1 February 2021.

Gympie Medical Transport is a local charity providing an essential service covering Hervey Bay to Brisbane. The new base will allow the service to continue its vital work in the community, transporting sick and injured residents to important medical appointments. Starting the service with two vehicles, the charity hopes to add additional vehicles over the course of the year.

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Glen Hartwig said Council had a ‘responsibility’ to ensure charities like Gympie Medical Transport could continue operations.

“Where possible, Council does have a responsibility to make sure we are providing homes for vital services like Gympie Medical Transport where we can,” Mayor Hartwig said.

“On behalf of Council and by extension the community, I am happy we were able facilitate them in a vacant council owned building,” he said.
