Work To Commence On The New Skate Facility At Cooloola Cove This Week
Work on the new Billabong Park Skate Facility at Cooloola Cove will commence on Tuesday, 3 November 2020, after Council endorsed VFG Skatepark Pty Ltd to carry out the build.
The project is a joint initiative of Gympie Regional Council and the Queensland Government’s $600 Million Works 4 Qld program.
The new skate facility is designed for beginner and intermediate users and includes an open bowl, multiple kerbs and ledges and a quarter pipe.
Included in the new facility is a recreation space which is consists of a shade shelter, concrete seating, a multi-use basketball half court, amenities and a spectator area.
Councillor Jess Milne says the new skate facility was designed with the help of passionate locals and is an investment in our future.
“The design of the new skate facility was a result of extensive community consultation with many locals including school children.
“I would like to thank everyone who participated in the process,” said Councillor Milne.
“This facility is an investment in our future as it will provide recreational opportunities for all age groups in Cooloola Cove.”
“The new Investigator Avenue pathway and the upgrade of the Tin Can Bay to Cooloola Cove connection link will enable families to travel to the new facility more easily,” she said.
Two community engagement sessions relating to the design of the facility occurred in March and May 2019, and the feedback provided was implemented in the final design of the facility.
The skate facility is expected to be completed in early January, subject to weather conditions.
